Court Sentences Individuals Accused of Attempting Soviet Flag March in Baku

The trial of Abdulla Ibrahimli, Ibrahim Asadli, Elchin Bayramli, and Mehman Zeynalov, who were accused of promoting communist ideology on social media and attempting to organize a march carrying Soviet Union (USSR) flags, has concluded.

According to local media reports, the verdict was announced at the Nizami District Court in Baku.

Under the court's ruling:



  • Ibrahim Asadli was sentenced to 2 years in prison.


  • Abdulla Ibrahimli was sentenced to 2 years in prison.


  • Elchin Bayramli was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.


  • Mehman Zeynalov was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.

The case stems from November last year, when videos circulated on social media showing a group of individuals attempting to march with Soviet (USSR) flags while promoting communist ideology.

Following an operation by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Internal Affairs, the four organizers were identified and detained. A court initially ordered them to remain in pre-trial detention for three months.








They were prosecuted under Article 233 of Azerbaijan's Criminal Code, which concerns organizing or actively participating in actions that disrupt public order.
