France Erupts in Protests: 600 People Detained as Unrest Spreads
France Protests Escalate as Hundreds Are Detained
Student protests in France have disrupted classes at hundreds of schools, while hundreds of people have been detained as demonstrations continue to spread across the country.
Faktxeber.Az reports, citing French media, that protests by high school students and university students have disrupted the educational process at 564 schools.
A student union also said that more than 25 university campuses had been blocked as part of the demonstrations.
According to police figures cited in the reports, around 600 people were detained during the morning hours.
The protests have increasingly affected schools across France. AFP reported that more than 730 schools were disrupted on October 2, while Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin said around 2,000 people had been taken into police custody, approximately 90 percent of them minors.
Meanwhile, French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin has asked prosecutors to consider holding parents financially responsible for damage allegedly caused by their children during high school blockades.
The protests have been driven by complaints about overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages and deteriorating school infrastructure. The demonstrations began in the Paris region before spreading to other parts of France.
The situation has also led to clashes between protesters and police, with tear gas being used in several locations. French authorities have reported injuries among police officers, education staff and students.
