An investigation has been launched following a mass food poisoning incident that occurred during a funeral ceremony in the city of Ganja.

According to the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA), specialists from its Ganja-Dashkasan Regional Department have begun investigating the incident.

According to preliminary information, the individuals who felt unwell received appropriate medical treatment at the hospital. They were diagnosed with suspected bacterial food poisoning of an unspecified origin. After being examined by doctors, their condition was assessed as satisfactory, and they were discharged home.

The agency also stated that, in order to determine the cause of the incident, samples of homemade food served at the funeral ceremony were collected and sent for laboratory analysis.

The investigation is ongoing.

Earlier, a mass food poisoning case was reported in Ganja. Eight people—three men and five women—were hospitalized in the Infectious Diseases Department of the Abbas Sahhat Hospital, which operates under the Ganja United City Hospital. Infectious disease specialist Dr. Firdovsi Mammadov said that all necessary medical assistance had been provided to the patients.
