President Ilham Aliyev Lays Foundation of the “Həkəriçay” Reservoir in Lachin

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation of the “Həkəriçay” Reservoir in Lachin on July 11.

According to Bizim.Media, Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency Zaur Mikayilov briefed President Ilham Aliyev on the project.

It was reported that, under the project, a reservoir with a total capacity of 100 million cubic meters and a useful capacity of 90 million cubic meters will be constructed on the Həkəri River, which originates within the borders of Azerbaijan. In addition, a main water pipeline with a length of nearly 172 kilometers and a water transmission capacity of 8 cubic meters per second will be built.

This infrastructure will have the potential to provide high-quality drinking water at a rate of 2.5 cubic meters per second to approximately 700,000 people living in the districts of Lachin, Gubadly, Zangilan, Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Khojavand, and Aghdam.

The construction of three hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) with a total capacity of 10.81 MW is also planned along the main pipeline supplied by the “Həkəriçay” Reservoir.

It should be noted that, in addition to ensuring a reliable and sustainable supply of high-quality drinking water for the population, the “Həkəriçay” Reservoir will play an important role in the efficient management of water resources in the liberated territories, improving drinking water supply in the region and other major cities of Azerbaijan, and supporting the socio-economic development of the areas.
