Is Armenia Preparing to Return Our Well-Known Village?

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told journalists that official Yerevan cannot remove the issue of enclaves and exclaves from its agenda. He stated that Armenia does not intend to abandon the issue and is seeking ways to resolve it.

For the first time since the elections, Pashinyan gave a detailed statement on the enclave and exclave issue, emphasizing that it should be resolved within the framework of the border delimitation process with Azerbaijan. His remarks have been interpreted by the Armenian public as a signal that the village of Nuvadi may be returned to Azerbaijan.

According to Faktxeber.az, speaking to Globalinfo.az, Elkhan Shahinoglu, head of the Atlas Research Center and a political analyst, said that the issue of enclaves and exclaves should be resolved as part of the border determination process.

“The issue is being discussed and examined through contacts and meetings between the border commissions. A section of the border has already been determined, but it is evident that the negotiations are not progressing rapidly. Armenia must ultimately make a decision. In particular, several occupied villages should be returned. At the same time, Armenia is seeking certain territories as well.

At present, the signing of the peace agreement has been delayed. Based on Pashinyan’s remarks, it appears that the constitutional referendum in Armenia will not take place this year. We want the enclaves and exclaves to be returned, but this is an issue that will take time to resolve.”
