Beetroot Named One of the Best Foods for Heart Health
Cardiologist Albina Kiikova has recommended including beetroot in the daily diet to help maintain heart health.
According to reports, the specialist explained that beetroot is one of the most beneficial foods for preventing cardiovascular diseases due to its rich nutritional composition.
She noted that beetroot is an excellent source of natural nitrates, which the body converts into nitric oxide—a compound that helps regulate blood vessel tone and improve circulation. In addition, beetroot contains powerful antioxidants such as anthocyanins and betacyanins, which help reduce inflammation. It is also rich in potassium and magnesium, two essential minerals that support electrolyte balance and the normal functioning of the cardiovascular system.
According to the cardiologist, clinical studies have shown that regular consumption of beetroot can help lower blood pressure, improve blood vessel function, and reduce inflammation, all of which contribute to better heart health.
Despite these scientifically supported benefits, Dr. Kiikova pointed out that many people still do not view beetroot as an important food for preventing heart disease. She believes this is largely due to concerns about the nitrates naturally present in the vegetable.
However, she reassured the public that when consumed in moderation, the natural nitrates found in beetroot pose no health risk and can, in fact, provide significant cardiovascular benefits.
