Artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT has analyzed expert opinions on the possible disintegration of the Russian Federation and outlined five independent states that could potentially emerge if such a scenario were to occur.
According to Ölkə.az, citing The Telegraph, the publication submitted the relevant question to ChatGPT.
According to the AI, the following potential successor states are among those most frequently discussed in expert circles:
European Russia, encompassing Moscow and Central Russia, would likely become the largest successor state in terms of economic and demographic potential, as it is home to the federal government and the majority of the country's population.
The Ural Republic could be established on the region's strong industrial base, particularly its metallurgy and machine-building sectors.
The Siberian Republic, with its capital potentially located in Novosibirsk or Krasnoyarsk, would rely on its abundant natural resources, energy sector, and scientific institutions.
The Far Eastern Republic, with Vladivostok as its capital, would likely orient itself toward the Asia-Pacific region, with which it already maintains extensive economic ties.
The North Caucasus could either split into several independent states or form a unified confederation due to its significant ethnic and political diversity.
ChatGPT also noted that alternative scenarios envision the emergence of independent states such as the Republic of Tatarstan, the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), and other national republics. In some projections, the total number of newly formed entities could reach 10 to 20 or even more.
At the same time, the AI emphasized the fundamental uncertainty surrounding such forecasts.
"No one can accurately predict whether Russia will break apart at all, let alone determine which specific states might emerge. Any concrete list would be purely hypothetical," ChatGPT said in its response.
Who Could Lead the New States?
According to ChatGPT, predicting the future leaders of any hypothetical successor states is even more uncertain.
The AI referred to the historical experiences of the collapse of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, noting that many of the individuals who ultimately became leaders of the newly independent countries had not been regarded as likely candidates just a few years earlier.
"Assigning specific names to the leadership of any hypothetical successor states of Russia today would not constitute a forecast but rather speculation without a reliable factual basis," ChatGPT concluded.
